Natural Hair Empire
NATIONAL HEALTH ALERT:
Research has identified significant health hazards, including toxic chemicals and heavy metals, in synthetic hair extensions, wigs, and weaves exclusively marketed to Black women
These products often contain substances linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and severe scalp irritation, largely because the synthetic hair industry is under-regulated and running wretched.
Key Findings on Hair Extension Hazards:
Toxic Chemicals and Carcinogens: A 2025 Consumer Reports study and a 2026 study by the Silent Spring Institute found that nearly all tested synthetic hair products contained dangerous chemicals!
These include benzene (linked to leukemia), methylene chloride (associated with liver and lung cancer), and organotins (used as heat stabilizers, known to cause skin irritation, and are even banned from marine paint for being too toxic. It would kill everything in the ocean).
Heavy Metals: High levels of lead were found in 90% of the synthetic hair samples tested, with some packages exceeding safe limits by more than 600%. Other heavy metals detected include cadmium (used in batteries), chromium, and nickel.
Scalp Irritation and Allergic Reactions - What I refer to as, "The slap your head" weave install itch. The chemicals in these extensions, such as organotins, often cause immediate, severe skin reactions, including itching, burning, and rashes. If you experience itching, remove the extensions immediately, as those chemicals are being absorbed through the scalp. Once these irritants absorb through the scailp and enter into the blood stream they flow through the vital organs of the body.
Exposure Risks: Because these styles are worn for weeks or months at a time, the chemicals are absorbed through the skin, inhaled, and can even be ingested if residue transfers from hands to food.
Lack of Regulation: There are no federal limits on the amount of lead or other toxic chemicals in synthetic hair, leaving the African American women consumers of these hazardous products unprotected.
Let's consider the collective mission of building our own supply businesses and producing alternative products via non hazardous, plant-based and natural hypoallergenic materials that yield healthy results.
All women need to review and know the Periodic chart of elements
